What is needed for someone to fulfill a dream? This is the question that is haunting me lately. I thought all that was needed is work, but it was not enough. Hard work is essential, but persistence and patience are more important, and you will go nowhere without clarity and purpose.
The recipe for success that I’m using goes like this: get clear on what is important to you; start working on improving yourself towards your goal; keep at it, and have patience. These steps might not always work as fast as you want them to, but they represent all that is in your power. Regardless of what goes on in the world, you can come back to them as a guide.
You are the one responsible for the way your life will unfold, and this comes down to the choices you make, especially when met with difficulty. All of us can seem disciplined where things are easy, but only those connected to a dream can still find discipline when times get hard.
Right now, my dream seems so far that I can barely see it. I don’t want to lose sight of it, so my only choice is to return to discipline and have patience while working hard on improving my skills.
There is no guarantee that my approach will work, but it’s a lot better than sitting on my ass and waiting for my life to end. Life is mine to live, and I try to do the best I know how in the hope that it will be enough.
Maybe it’s time for you to let go of the fear and make your way into the world. You will never get anywhere if you are afraid to start. All this time spent on making plans for the future means nothing if you are not willing to act. No amount of preparation can be a substitute for action.
You want to get the best results, so you’ve been running simulations in your mind trying to predict the future. But if you keep things in your mind for too long they lose connection with reality. The best way for you is to take action now, in spite of all that is keeping you frozen. What you have now, and what you can do with it’s all that matters.
The plans you make, and your expectations, need to be flexible because once met with reality, you will be forced to change them. It might prove easier to accept this change and find a way to use it than trying to fight against it.
Just like a river, your life has a flow. Every time that you will try to stand against it, you will be pushed under. Sometimes you’ll be able to grab onto a rock and find temporary safety, but it’s not a place where you can stay forever.
Afraid or not, your only choice is to jump back in and use the force of the river to take you where you need to go.
You are caught in this river for as long as you live, so it is wise to learn how to navigate it. If not, you will spend most of your time underwater, gasping for air.
