Choose the rules

Rules are important, but none of them should be accepted without question. They are meant to provide structure in our lives, but they might do the opposite. Every rule should provide guidance and make things more clear, but in today’s world, some people use rules to divide.

Now, more than ever, it is important to question every rule and be clear on what it means, its purpose, and who put it in place. If the purpose of it is to complicate things for most people, then it might be necessary to break this rule.

For your own sake, you need to be able to evaluate the validity and utility of any rule that you will encounter in your life. Based on this evaluation you will decide to stick to the rule or break it.

The rules you impose on yourself are the most important of all, because no one, and nothing is forcing you to respect it. The rules you make up have the power to change the course of your life. If for the good or the better, this is for you to decide.

You might think that a life without rules could be a better choice, that it could set you free, but such a life is a fantasy. You’ve been living according to rules for your whole life, even if you’re not aware of them. Once you open your eyes and see that everything needs structure, rules can become a tool that can make life simple.

There’s a lot that you don’t know. So, stop acting like you know everything. When you are met with something new, don’t make presumptions because they will not allow you to correctly understand the situation.

Your ego does not want to be caught off guard by anything. That is why it tries to make it look like you know everything. In truth, all it manages to do is to cover the lack of information and being unsure, with arrogance.

As a great philosopher said, “The more you know, the more you realize you know nothing”. The reverse is always true because ignorance can make you believe that you know all there is to know. Next time you’re met with something new, pay attention. If you don’t know what it means, take your time to understand it, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

But before you can do any of that, you must accept that you don’t know. This is where you struggle right now.

You have always believed that if people see that you know nothing about a certain subject, they’ll think less of you. In the real world, there is no way for someone to be an expert in every area. That’s what makes sharing ideas interesting because it helps us learn.

There will be many times when you’ll know less than everyone around you about something. This is no tragedy, but it can turn into one if you refuse to learn. Stop holding on to your ideas only because they are yours. Ideas that have value come from everywhere.
